Why We Started
Direct Study was born out of a very personal experience. When our founder first arrived in Australia as an international student back in 2010, his flight landed late at night. By the time he reached the hotel, it was past midnight—only to discover the booking had been cancelled. With no place to stay, he had to search for accommodation in an unfamiliar city, eventually arranging a shared room in the suburb through an online chat in the middle of the night. Needing cash to pay, he found himself walking to an ATM with a group of drunk strangers nearby—tired, anxious, and unsure of what to do. That night highlighted how stressful, confusing, and even unsafe an international student’s first hours in a new country can be.
From that experience, Direct Study was created—with one mission: to ensure no student has to go through the same uncertainty.
